Ingredients

For 2 servings

Onion rings with Camembert cheese

  • 300g Camembert

  • 2 large onions

  • 100 g flour

  • 150 g breadcrumbs

  • 2–4 eggs

  • Cooking oil

  • Cranberries

Preparation in 7 steps

  1. Prepare onions:

    • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Make sure the rings aren't too thin so they'll crisp up nicely when fried.

  2. Prepare Camembert:

    • Cut the Camembert into small strips that fit inside the onion rings. If you like it extra creamy, you can also freeze the Camembert slightly to prevent it from melting too much when deep-fried.

  3. Prepare the breading line:

    • Prepare three deep plates or bowls:

      • Spread the flour in the first plate.

      • Whisk the eggs in the second plate.

      • In the third plate, prepare the breadcrumbs.

  4. Fill onion rings:

    • Place a Camembert strip into each onion ring and gently press the ring together so that the cheese is well wrapped.

  5. Bread:

    • First coat the stuffed onion rings in flour, then dip them in the egg and finally roll them in the breadcrumbs until they are evenly coated.

  6. Deep frying:

    • Heat enough oil in a pan to allow the onion rings to float. Fry one at a time until golden brown and crispy (about 2–3 minutes per side).

    • Drain on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil.

    Tip:

Serve the onion rings with delicious cranberries!
